What are the types of asthma?
There is no set number amount of the different types of asthma. Some researchers agree on certain types while others do not. Throughout my research the types of asthma I have came across are: Asthma (Classical Asthma), Cough Variant Asthma, Exersice- induced Asthma, Childhood
Asthma, and Occupational Asthma.
Asthma, and Occupational Asthma.
Cough variant asthma Cough variant asthma is a newer recoginzed form of asthma. From this it is poorly understood. Unlike classical asthma, in cough variant asthma coughing is the sole sympton. A great academic journal on cough variant asthma that I found is listed below in useful webpages.
exercise-induced asthma Exercise-induced asthma is when there is an acute narrowing of the
airways during or after vigorous exercise or excertion. Exercise-induced asthma has been present in patients with and without underlying symptons of persistent asthma. Exercise-induced asthma is also classified as exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. |
childhood asthma Childhood asthma is much like classical asthma. According to the Asthma and Allergry Foundation of American, "In the United States, it is estimated that nearly 5 million
youngsters under age 18 have this disease (asthma)". Asthma is the most common chronic disease among children. Asthma can start at any time but most children with the disease develope it by age five. Occupational Asthma Occupational asthma is when substances within your work enviroment causes you to experience asthma symptons. According to Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center, "Occupational asthma is often a reversible condition, which means the symptoms may disappear when the irritants that caused the asthma are avoided". They also state that permanent damage can be a result to prolonged exposure.
